Good Fences and Good Neighbors

“Good fences make good neighbors,” right? Well, only if that fence is in the right place!  Sheds, gardens, or the extent that you mow are not necessarily good indicators of where your property lines are.
The only way to really know what you own is by getting a land survey from a credible surveyor.

Licensed Land Surveyors have proven that they meet minimum standards of care set by New York State to adequately determine where property lines are. A surveyor will be able to provide you with a map of your property showing exactly what you own. They can also place markers – typically iron rods – at each of your property corners.

There are several components to a survey. Every survey involves research of property records, field measurements, computations and boundary line determination, and mapping; though the setting of monuments at each of the property corners is highly recommended, it is not legally required in New York. 

The price of the land survey can vary depending on where your property is and how your deed is written. The setting of capped iron rods at each corner can be as little as $50 per iron rod.
